To Blog or Not to Blog: Reasons You Should Not Blog

Reasons You Should Not Blog

In our previous blog post on the topic, we discussed mostly how you, as a business owner, can take all the knowledge you have regarding your business and start creating a year of blog content in one day—which should have literally saved you a lot of wasted hours—In this blog post we want to list a few reasons, and good ones at that, on why not to start a blog at all. Keep in mind that these reasons are just our opinions and suggestions, and are not based on any kind of empirical research.

  • Money – You should not start a blog with the sole purpose of make money. It is important to get it out of your system as quickly as possible. If this is your primary aim, forget about it, because it simply won’t work for you. Do you think that both Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton wanted to make money from being good guitar players? No. They did it out of love, for the joy and fulfillment they received by doing so and the income came much later actually. That being said, whether you make $20/year or $20,000/year, it’s nice to have a hobby that actually pays you back.
  • Fame – You should not start a blog in order to get “Internet Famous”. It takes time to get your targeted audience to grow and love your blog. You should always remember that not every website builds a fan base fast. Sometimes you also need luck to grow, but the truth is, if you have a great domain name, somehow managed to improvise a nice logo and website design that people will actually like. As a result of a little thing called fate and a lot of hard and passionate work, you can eventually get there over a certain amount of time.
  • Traffic – You should not start a blog in order to get traffic. The first premise you need to take under consideration is that not all traffic is good for your blog. You should not worry about getting thousands and thousands of readers when you begin – It builds over time if your content is decent enough.

Eventually, you could make a full-time income off of your blog, we all know there are bloggers out there that do it. You could also become a Internet famous blogger one day in the future. However, if these are the only reasons for starting your blog, you you will only bring about your own unhappiness, and I will tell you why. You will wake up every morning, sit down in front of your computer, and start writing blog posts – Sounds familiar? After a while, it will seem like a job for you and you will most likely lose your passion and drive, and do you know what will happen next? either you will come to hate it, fall flat on your face, or hate it and fall flat on your face. Instead, spare yourself all this misery and write because you are passionate about it.

Hello! I know this is sort of off-topic however I needed to ask. Does running a well-established blog like yours require a lot of work? I’m completely new to writing a blog but I do write in my diary on a daily basis. I’d like to start a blog so I will be able to share my own experience and feelings online. Please let me know if you have any ideas or tips for new aspiring blog owners. Appreciate it!
